Philosophy of BYI
BYI’s
philosophy is that of encouraging self responsibility.
The most fundamental tenet of Natural Health Philosophy is that, under
the
right circumstances, the human body has the capability of healing
itself.
Natural
healing ideology focuses on naturally-occurring
substances, minimally-invasive methods, and encouragement of natural
healing.
Prevention through stress reduction and a healthy diet and lifestyle is
emphasized, and pharmaceutical drugs, ionizing radiation, and surgery
are
generally minimized. The philosophy of naturopathic practice is
self-described
by six core values:
- First,
do no harm; provide the most effective health care available with the
least risk to patients at all times.
- Recognize,
respect and promote the self-healing power of nature inherent in each
individual human being.
- Identify
and remove the causes of illness, rather than eliminate or suppress
symptoms.
- Educate,
inspire rational hope and encourage self-responsibility for health.
- Treat
each person by considering all individual health factors and
influences.
- Emphasize
the condition of health to promote well-being and to prevent diseases
for the individual, each community and our world.
On
the other hand, western societies have steadily come
to rely on pharmaceutical drugs and modern medicine as a panacea for
the
majority of illnesses. This dependence suits Big Pharma whose sole
objective is
to increase profits, regardless of the human destruction caused. It is
a
“sickness industry” that suits a profit model
rather than a natural health and
healing approach.
An
excellent expose on the state of modern medicine has
been researched by Gary Null, PhD; Carolyn Dean MD, ND; Martin Feldman,
MD;
Debora Rasio, MD; and Dorothy Smith, PhD in their report called “Death
by
Medicine”.
“This
fully referenced report
shows the number of people having in-hospital, adverse reactions to
prescribed
drugs to be 2.2 million per year. The number of unnecessary antibiotics
prescribed annually for viral infections is 20 million per year. The
number of
unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5
million
per year. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization
annually
is 8.9 million per year.
The
most stunning statistic,
however, is that the total number of deaths caused by conventional
medicine is
an astounding 783,936 per year. It is now evident that the American
medical
system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US. By contrast,
the
number of deaths attributable to heart disease in 2001 was 699,697,
while the
number of deaths attributable to cancer was 553,251”.

With
the above statistics, how can Governments allow such
a situation to continue and exist? They do because Big Pharma spend
huge sums
of money on lobbyists to make sure that health legislation is passed in
their
favor. They also influence the health regulators (eg FDA) so that
competition
from natural approaches is minimized.
